I first discovered Adrian Tchaikovsky through his novel “Children of Time” which is one of my favourite science-fiction novels and one of my favourite books in general, and if you like spiders (a big ask, I know) you’ll love it too. So when he released “Shards of Earth” book 1 in the Final Architecture trilogy I had to give it a try. And I was not disappointed.
In the trilogy humans have begun travelling through the galaxy and have met different alien species. Some want to trade, while others want to rule, but everything changes when a moon-sized creature called an Architect destroys and reshapes earth killing billions and turning the remaining human race into refugees constantly running from Architects whenever they appear.
In “Lords of Uncreation” book 3 in the Final Architecture trilogy the combined force of humans and other alien races together may have figured out a way to actually fight back against the imposing force that are the Architects. But are they the real enemy? Or are there others controlling the Architects and forcing them to destroy all sentient life throughout the universe. You’ll have to read it to find out because I won’t spoil it for you. But I will say, there are great characters, interesting and weird aliens, and technologies and even some Lovecraftian horror mixed in too. It’s a great conclusion to a great trilogy, and if you are a fan of science-fiction then you have to give this trilogy a read because it is amazing and some of the best science-fiction written in a while.
