Dara is doing her best to look after her siblings while her mother does anything but. Meanwhile Grace who has been brought up in a slightly different world is also facing a horror situation after her mother collapses and ends up in a coma. Both girls are removed from their homes and end up in the horror home for kids which is Holly Brookes. They soon become friends. There is unimaginable abuse at the home and many of those at fault will get their just desserts by the end of this book.
Meanwhile the Wakeman family are a powerful and ruthless criminal family. Sam used to be involved with one brother Jake until his brother Jason asked him to choose between. Then Jason went on to marry Sam and dish out unimaginable abuse and torment. Jake still trys to protect Sam, but she is undermined by her spiteful mother and things get even worse.
The novel is divided into books, with many years sometimes passing between each.
Years later having escaped the home, Dara finds herself in an abusive relationship and she and Grace while keeping in touch have not seen much of each other. Until one day Grace turns up with unfortunate news. It sparks a wave of events, none of them good and this is the part where the worlds of Dara, Grace and the Wakeman's intersect.
This is not for you if you're not a fan of extremely colourful language or explicit violence and other acts. But it's very much Martina Cole and hard to put down despite its length.
